Top Tips for Healthy Aging

Healthy aging is about not only looking, but also feeling good.

Wondering how you’re celebrating yet another birthday already? Time flies as they say, but follow these tips for healthy aging and you’ll likely look and feel younger than your years.

Practice preventative medicine. Talk to your doctor about a blood pressure screening, bone density test, cholesterol check, colonoscopy, mammogram or prostate cancer screening, skin cancer screening and other preventative measures.

Watch your weight. Extra pounds can increase your risk for arthritis, diabetes, some cancers and other conditions and diseases. Eat a healthy diet and practice portion control.

Exercise your body. Regular physical activity can help keep bones and muscles healthy, keep weight in check and help alleviate back pain and other ailments.

Exercise your brain. Keep mentally sharp by learning something new; learn a new language, take up knitting or sign up for a beginner’s ballroom dance class. In addition, try doing puzzles or playing brainteaser style video games for cognitive health.

Enjoy the people in your life. Studies show that having close personal relationships with family and friends can help someone live happier and healthier. So, talk to friends and family on the phone and plan get-togethers often.
