Get Fit This Fall

The cooler weather and beautiful scenery make fall the perfect time of year to kick your fitness routine into full force.

As the temperatures cool off and the leaves begin to fall, you have a prime opportunity to kick start your fitness regimen before the holidays approach and you get into the rut of indulgent treats and lazy days. Head outdoors to ramp up your workout and avoid the monotony that sometimes accompanies a gym workout. Here are our top tips for making the most of fall fitness.

Take Advantage of the Weather
Find an activity that you can do outdoors, such as running, hiking or cycling. Each workout will be a treat for the senses and gives you something to look forward to. You’ll be more likely to continue an activity if it’s something that is enjoyable.

Think Outside of the Box
Think outside of the traditional fitness routine. Gardening, joining a group fitness class or just spending time outside with your kids can add up to many calories burned.

Join a Community Event
There are plenty of community fitness events, such as 5k runs/ walks in the fall months. Joining one will give you a goal to work towards and a reason to keep up the hard work.

Plan Ahead
The days are shorter during the fall months, so it stays dark later in the morning and gets dark sooner in the evenings. Plan your workouts accordingly so you make the most of the daylight hours. If you do decide to work out during the early morning or evening hours when it is beginning to get dark, remember to wear light and/or reflective clothing so you will be visible.

Stock Up on Fresh Fall Produce
Accompany your fall fitness routine with a fresh burst of flavor. There are tons of great produce items in season during fall, so take advantage of them and boost your diet alongside your newfound fitness routine.

Set Some Goals
Commit to working out a certain number of days per week, or reaching a fitness goal such as the number of miles you want to be able to walk, run or bike. You’ll be more likely to succeed when you have a specific target in mind.

Starting a fitness routine this fall will help you stay healthy through the holiday season and even give you a jump start on your New Year’s goals.
